Sebsongs Modular is a small eurorack module company from Malmö, Sweden, offering a range of sequencers, utility modules, samplers, synth voices and drum machines. Sebsongs Modular modules are mainly available as DIY kits, but since spring of 2025 a selection of modules are also available as assembled modules. DIY modules are available at Thonk and Exploding Shed. Assembled modules are available at Perfect Circuit, Escape From Noise and Thonk.

I’ve had a Juno 60 in for some repairs this summer, and what better way is there to do the final tests than patching it with some of my modules?

In this patch the Juno 60’s arpeggiator is being clocked by EUCLIDEAN, which is also clocking and resetting RHYTMATIC and triggering the 909 kick from Plaits. Everything is mixed and sent to a stereo delay with the ST MIXER XL with some of the channels first going through the new MUTE || VCA x6 module.

Live performances, easy access and flexibility were the core ideas behind the MUTE || VCA x6 module. The six switches on the right edge of the module create great access to muting and unmuting audio and signals while having another hand free for filter tweaking.   In this demonstration, the first four channels are configured as mutes and the last two channels are configured as VCAs - showing just one of many examples of how this module can be used in different ways and setups.

MUTE || VCA x6 might not be the smoothest of module names, however this module is a utility gem that packs a lot of punch per HP. In essence, MUTE || VCA x6 is six clickless and DC-coupled mute channels in 8 HP that can be used for muting virtually any signal within a Eurorack system. Each mute channel can be set on or off either by pushing the corresponding illuminated switch or by feeding it any signal that goes over +1 volt above ground.

Six channels of mutes is surely a great thing, but what if you could configure each channel to be either a MUTE or a VCA? This module allows you to do just that! -(And this is also where the name comes from; || meaning OR)- On the back of the module there are six switches, one for each channel, and these can be set to either MUTE or VCA. This means that the module can be configured to any combination of MUTES and VCAs you wish. In VCA mode the CV input offers linear CV control over the VCA. The switch adds +5V to the CV input if it is activated, effectively making it possible to switch the CV input between bipolar and unipolar behaviour which is very handy when controlling the VCAs with LFOs.

The inputs are also normalled through the switched jacks, so connecting a signal into the first input cascades it to all other channels. This is perfect for sending one sound to different effects, or distributing a clock to several modules and having the option to turn the clocks on or off dynamically.

Finally, with the mute switches laid out in a row to the right makes this perfect to mount to the rightmost edge of any Eurorack live system, enabling easy access to the mute switches during a live performance. All in all, this is by far the most flexible and feature packed module in the Sebsongs Modular ”x6” utility series of modules!

Here’s a live jam video showcasing how Rhythmatic, Bread & Butter and Polyseq can be combined to create evolving and inspiring music!

In this video Polyseq is the main clock and sequencer, and the bass line melody is generated with its random sequence function. Bread & Butter is playing the same melody as the bass line but clock divided by three. The BD, SD and LC voices from Rhythmatic are patched through some distortion, and the RS, HH and CY are fed through a VCA, which in turn is modulated by an envelope triggered by Rhythmatic’s Bass Drum trigger output to create a sidechain effect.

Rhythmatic is very much designed towards live performance, with easy access to pattern changes, the big random knob on top for quick fills and individually mutable channels. The six channels of the sequencer can also be used for triggering external modules, and this video is demonstrating just that.

Here the bass drum and hi-hat channel jacks are configured as trigger outputs and they are triggering the Sebsongs Modular Sampler and Bread & Butter respectively. With just a few companion modules, Rhythmatic becomes a sequencing hub and rhythmic base for your modular jamming sessions.

Introducing Sebsongs Modular Rhythmatic!

Available now at @thonksynth as both DIY kit and assembled module!

Rhythmatic is a fully featured analog drum machine with six selected analog drum voices derived from the classic CR-78. It expands on the original by offering adjustable tune and decay controls for the bass drum and snare drum, plus decay control for the cymbal. The built in sequencer offers 64 programmable drum patterns, up to 16 steps in length. Each drum voice can have its own sequence length, making it possible to create polymetric sequences. Rhythmatic also comes with 64 pre-programmed patterns, so you don’t have to make your own to get started.

A key feature of Rhythmatic is the big knob in the top center. This knob controls a random parameter, which either adds or subtracts steps from the pre-programmed patterns. This parameter is a lot of fun for performing live and adding some extra random fills on the fly. Holding the shift button turns the random knob into a 4 bar loop recorder, which will record pattern changes and movement on the random knob.

In short, Rhythmatic offers classic sounds and rhythms, programmability and live performance features that make it a unique addition to the Eurorack drum module market.

Sampler has been out of stock for a little while d

Sampler has been out of stock for a little while due to a revision of the hardware. From today the Sampler comes with presoldered surface mount components, so the DIY build process is quite a bit easier and faster.   As a bonus, the Sampler just became the first Sebsongs Modular module to be available in limited amounts as an assembled module! For now, the assembled modules will be assembled and packaged by myself in my lab here in Malmö, Sweden, hence the limited runs.

Both the DIY and assembled versions of the Sebsongs Modular Sampler are available from @thonksynth today!

Bread & Butter is now available at Thonk!

Bread & Butter is a General MIDI based polyphonic synth voice with 128 selectable instruments plus a drums preset. The sound banks have a synthetic and warm quality to them, and the variety of instruments makes this module a flexible and fun addition in any system. Bread & Butter features the standard V/OCT and GATE inputs for triggering the synth voice.

Thanks to a polyphony of up to 64, the voices will decay independently making it possible to ratchet chords that decay polyphonically. If the HOLD function is engaged, each note will also sustain. In addition, the MIDI input can be used simultaneously with the V/OCT and GATE inputs. For example; trigger the drums on MIDI channel 10 while generating a bass line via the V/OCT/GATE inputs. The synth voices can also be played polyphonically via MIDI.

The module features stereo outputs and the PAN knob lets you spread the polyphonic voices out in the stereo sound field. Parameters such as pitch bend, velocity and instrument selection can be voltage controlled.

Randomly sampled breakbeats with modules from #sebsongsmodular !

Patch notes:
- Polyseq is triggering the breakbeat sample on Radio Music and clocking Odds. Radio Music’s output is fed into the Sampler input.
- Odds is set to generate octaves and the octave range is set just high enough to be able to trigger the sampling CV input on Sampler.
- When the probability on Odds is increased, it starts to generate voltages and the Sampler starts sampling and playing back the breakbeat in a random pattern.
- On Polyseq, playing around with clock divisions on the channel that is clocking Odds creates some variations of the effect.
- There you go - endless fun for a jungle live set!
